green & laughing

Happy St. Patrick's Day:).

This has been a crazy week. The kind of week where I rush out of the house and have to dry my hair with the car heating vent and still end up 30 minutes late to work, sans breakfast. The kind of week where Ben decides to be fussy at 2am and 'cry it out' lasts for 3 hours. But.... today, St. Patty's Day, was a good day.

Ben gave us his first laugh. A full-out belly laugh. And he did it again. And again. And again. And guess who he was laughing at?

:) His mama! So all of that rushing around and bad hair day bit.... totally worth it:).

Benji with Grandpa! :)

This weekend we'll be starting our vegetable seeds indoors. Which only means one thing- Spring is a-bloomin;). Hope you're seeing signs of it from your home too:).

In like a lion....

Happy March!

Signs of Spring are slowly appearing. The snow is melting, the chipmunks run circles around the house, teasing Luna. Spring is on it's way; we can all feel it. And it feels gooooooood:).

Yesterday was the year anniversary of the day that we found out I was pregnant. One year ago I found myself eagerly, yet cautiously breaking into my secret stash of pregnancy kits, assuming another let down.

But this time was different.

And for every blessed second of this past year, I feel forever grateful.

Spring is on it's way...

Lately, he's taken to calling you Pumpkin Seed.

And you just think he's the coolest. He walks into the room and your face lights up and you're locked in. Completely & utterly smitten.

Like a little pumpkin seed, you're constantly growing. Thirteen weeks old and you're wearing clothes fit for a 6-month old. Your mama nearly cries every time she retires one of your cute little 0-3 month outfits to the basement.

With all of this growing & sleeping that you're doing now, come Spring, you'll be ready to party with the big boys and enjoy the great outdoors.

So for now, just get all of the sleeping in that you need because any day, we'll be outside planting vegetables, chasing pups and soaking up the sun. You just wait;).

welcome, february.

you've stormed in with an almost record-breaking amount of snow.

i saw on the news today that we're up to 71 inches of snow for the season in the boston area. apparently that's 0.3 inches away from the 10th most snowiest of winters here. little random fact for ya;). oh, and it's still snowing.

by the way... there's a deck under there. perhaps we'll find it come spring?

this kind of day calls for tea. i've been dying to try this honey that matt's aunt gave us for christmas. it's local honey.

and i've always fancied this bee honeycomb that i found at a winery in connecticut years ago. yes, there are wineries in connecticut. who would have thought?

cute little guy, eh? :)
the other little guy is discovering that his hands are not as random as he once thought. he, at times, realizes that he can control them.

pretty cool to witness this realization.

happy february to you.

sleepy kinda week

It just will not stop snowing here. What do I expect? I live in New England......

My snow-covered garden eagerly awaits spring...
During weeks like this, I'm so unmotivated to leave the house.

He loves the monkeys. He coos and squeals as they dance circles above his head. And when they stop, he cries for an encore.

But I did venture out to give the little guy some fresh air.

Of course, getting him geared up (in his lumberjack outfit, as we so appropriately named it), took longer than the walk.

our driveway, pre-snow blowing

our driveway, post- snow blowing... what is that little black thing in the distance, you may ask? why, yes, it's Luna. She was the only one who thought me sane for taking this walk:).

Even as a lifetime New Englander, I can't seem to remember that walking on ice-covered snow with baby strapped to chest = not smart. But, whatthehell.... we did it and survived;).

After all, he is a true New Englander by blood, so he'll have to get used to it;).

And, well, days like these are pretty damn beautiful.

Not that we got far anyway... the warm house was just too inviting, so back in we went.

Snow day

Even though I've been home on maternity leave for the past 7 weeks, I can't help but feel my old school-girl-days giddiness at the thought of a snow day. Our state is blanketed in white. My doctor appointment was cancelled, there is no where to go.

We're cozied up inside, a fire heating the house, the little man sleeping in his crib, coffee brewing in the kitchen.

I have a little secret to share with you, a special treat that I like to whip out on certain occasions. It's called egg-in-hole.
You see, I have a Pavlovian response to snow days. It goes like this: I pretty much see the first flake of snow fall from the sky and my mouth starts to water, while images of egg-in-hole run through my brain.

Simply cut a small hole in a slice of bread, butter both sides, stick the bread in a heated skillet, crack an egg in the hole and cook until the egg is just-the-perfect-runniness, douse the whole thing in maple syrup and there you have egg-in-hole. As I said, I reserve it for special occasions (i.e. snow days, sick days, birthdays), but let's face it: I could eat it every day of my life:). It's just one of those things.
Going back to my first sentence of this post, I have been on maternity leave for 7 weeks. Benjamin is seven weeks old. These weeks have flown by. Admittedly, the first few were a complete sleepless, surreal blur, though I've really tried to bask in every second of this little guy's life, but I cannot believe he's been home with us now for seven weeks. He's already changed so much, I cannot even imagine where he'll be in another 7 weeks.

The kid smiles and chats all the time now. He even does this laugh / scream hybrid thing, where he smiles so hard and a funny little squeak escapes from his mouth. I like to think it's because he believes his mama is too funny for words;).

And he just has no control over his body, whatsoever. He holds his head up, true, but he's just discovered his arm/ hand extension and he can't seem to stop hitting himself in the face. It's pretty humorous to watch.

But he is just taking everything in and we can see these changes on a daily basis. It's amazing. Truly amazing.

I hope you're enjoying your day (perhaps also a snow day?) from where you are.
